An Analysis of Characters of M. A. Bulgakov's Novella Heart of a Dog

Abstract:Bulgakov's novella Heart ofa Dogoccupiesa special and crucialposition in his overalliterary creation.The seriesof actionscarriedout by the two maincharacters inthe novelhighlight thecarnivalesque identitycompositionand action patterns they possess.The“carnivalesque”natureof Sharikov isconcentratedly manifested in thereversed perspectiveof the“Nemo identity,”thereconstructionof individual discourse,and thedispeling fearin theoperationof the “slaughter of cats”,while the“carnivalesque”aspect of Preobrazhenskyis mainly embodied in his“supernatural”ability to rejuvenate others,the explorationof human bodyduring the surgical process,and thedual imageof God andtheDevil.
