Design of second-order bandpass filter with adjustable transmission zero

Abstract: Transmission zero can effectively improve frequency selectivity and out-of-band suppression of the bandpass filter. A second-order bandpass filter with adjustable transmission zero was proposed to meet different technical requirement. The equivalent circuit was set up for basic structures, and then the whole equivalent circuit of the filter was obtained. Such the physical mechanism of the filter was revealed, including the generation mechanism of both resonances and transmission zero. At the same time, the explicit formulas describing the relationship between circuit elements and electric parameters were derived. These formulas can be used in the design method to calculate initial electric parameters according to technical specifications of the filter, by which the time was effectively saved. In this paper, two filter examples with the same center frequency at 2.0 GHz and relative bandwidth of 6% were designed, and the transmission zero can be shifted at the either side of the passband.
