Abstract:To screen the improved iron tailings sand substrates conducive to the growth of tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea),this study used pure iron tailings sand as the control(CK),with a base substratecomposed of 91% iron tailings sand+ 8% mature soil+ 1% organic fertilizer.Building upon an 85% iron tailings sand+ 8% mature soil+ 1% organic fertilizer mixture,three experimental treatments were prepared by supplementing with 6% sludge, 6% composted sawdust, and 6% peat,respectively. The objective was to investigate their effects on thegrowth and physiologicalcharacteristics of tallfescue.The results demonstrated that the addition ofdifferent organic wastes promoted the plant height growth of tallfescue,with the sludge treatment group showing a signifi cant 45.34% increase in height compared to the control. Alltreatment groups exhibited higher plant water contentand chlorophyllevels than the control,while free proline,electrolyte leakage,and malondialdehyde were lower.The sludge treatment group displayed the lowest activities ofsuperoxide dismutase,peroxidase,and catalase,whereas the composted sawdust treatment group showed the lowest ascorbate peroxidase activity. Correlationmatrix revealed significant relationships between the growthand physiologicalindicators oftall fescue.Principal component analysis indicated a distinct characteristic distribution for the sludge treatment group.
