Characteristics and multidimensional connotation analysis of Tuanke pair bird pattern on brocade in the Tang dynasty

Abstract： The Tuanke pair bird pattern is one of the most representative patterns in Tang dynasty brocade，and has high aesthetic value. Based on five pieces of Tang dynasty Tuanke pair bird pattern brocade collected by China National Silk Museum，this paper analyzes the morphological characteristics and cultural connotation of the Tang dynasty Tuanke pair bird pattern by means of data acquisition and digital image restoration technology combined with documents. The study found that the Tuanke pair bird patternin brocade changed significantly from the early Tang dynasty to the prosperous Tang dynasty，the diameter of Tuanke expanded first and then decreased，the proportion of the area of Tuanke gradually expanded，the outline line changed from being geometric and tough to being round and smooth，and the theme changed from abstract petal pattern to realistic treasure pattern，reflecting the technical progress and aesthetic transformation of the Tang dynasty. The pair bird pattern style in the Tang dynasty brocade is remarkable，with the ribbon with bird pattern symbolizing the orthodoxy of imperial power，the eagle pattern symbolizing military authority， the number of peacock patern tail feather eye-shaped spots symbolizing Buddhist merit，and the wild goose pattern and mandarin duck patern reflecting love and marriage. The study further reveals the multi-dimentional cultural connotation of the Tuanke pair bird pattern，including secular implication expresson，political system intervention and religious symbol fusion，which provides an empirical basis for technological innovation and cross-cultural integration of silk art of the Tang dynasty.
