EU Management Model and Experience of Recycled Plastics for Food Contact

Abstract

Thisresearch systematically reviews the regulatory model of recycled plastics used in food contact in the European Union.Although the EUis not amember economy of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation（APEC），it has achieved strict supervision of the entire chain of recycled plastics for food use by establishingacomprehensive legal framework，seting mandatory targets for recycled material content， and developinga safety evaluationand authorization modelfor recycling processes based on“challenge tests”.So far，China has not yet opened the use of recycled plastics in food contact applications.Based on the EU'sexperience，the study points out that under the“Carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals”，Chinaurgentlyneedstoestablishascientificriskassessmentsystem，standards，andaful-chain traceability supervision mechanism，onthe basisof improving wastesorting，toensure food safetyand promote the development of a circular economy for plastics.
