Abstract:Traumaticbrain injury(TBI)isoneof thesignificant causes of mortalityand disability worldwide.It is characterized bymechanical damage to thebraincaused by external impact,which mayresult in irrversible harm tofunctional neurons.Thecascadeofreactions initiatedbysecondaryinjuryisoneof theprimaryfactors leading to neural functional impairmentandtheelevationofoxidative stressand inflammatorylevels.Erythropoietin(EPO),asa typeIcytokine,mitigatessecondary neuronal injurythrough multi-targetneuroprotective mechanisms,representing a highlypromising therapeuticstrategyforTBI.However,itsclinical translation stillneeds toaddresshematopoietic sideeffectsand delivery efciency bottlenecks.Thisreview summarizes theresearch progress on exogenousEPO administrationin TBI treatment.
