Abstract:【Objective】To investigate thegeographical variationof leaf metabolites in Chionanthus retususandselect provenaces with superior metabolite content,this study providesa foundation for breeding tea-orientedvarietiesof Chionanthus retusus,as wellas theconservation and utilizationof its germplasmresources.【Method】Using leaf samples froml50 individual Chionanthus retusus tres representing 15 provenances across eight provinces,this studyanalyzed he contents of teapolyphenols,soluble sugars,glutamigacid,ascorbicacid,flavonoids,andanthocyanins.Through varianceanalysis,coeffientofvariationassessment,,corelationanalysis,clusteranalysis,principal componentanalysis (PCA),and comprehensive evaluation,we identified provenances with superior metabolite profiles.【Result】Both inter-provenance and intra-provenance differences reached highly significant levels ( P<0.001 ),indicatingrich trait variationin Chionanthus retusus germplasmresources.Metabolitecorrelationanalysisrevealedahighlysignificant positive corelation between glutamicacidand soluble sugars,as wellas significant positivecorelations between teapolyphenols andascorbicacid,andbetween tea polyphenolsandglutamicacid.Climate-metabolitecorrelationanalysis demonstrated significantpositiverelationshipsbetweenisothermality(bio-climaticfactor)andglutamicacid,and betweenanual precipitationandanthocyanins.Clusteranalysisgrouped the15Chionanthusretususprovenances into three distinct clusters,whichdidnotalignwith theirgeographicaldistribution.Comprehensiveevaluationfinallyidentifiedfour superiorprovenances:Nanzhao(Henan),Yichang(Hubei),Linyi(Shandong),and Chengde(Hebei). 【Conclusion】Significant diferencesweredetected insixclassesof leaf metabolitesbothwithinandamong15 Chionanthus retusus provenances.Through comprehensive evaluation,four superior provenances were identified:Nanzhao (Henan),Yichang(Hubei),Linyi(Shandong),and Chengde(Hebei).
