Mediating role of self-concept clarity between alexithymia and mobile phone dependency among nursing freshmen

【Abstract】 ObjectiveTo explore the mediating role of self-concept clarity between alexithymia and mobile phone dependencyamong nursingfreshmen.MethodsAtotalof 37O nursing freshmen fromauniversity in HubeiProvince were selectedasparticipants.They were assessed using a general information questionnaire，Mobile Phone Dependency Index Scale，Toronto Alexithymia Scale，and Self-Concept Clarity Scale.ResultsThe mean scores of mobile phone dependency，alexithymia，and self-conceptclarity among nursing freshmen were 2.52±0.69 （204号 2.48±0.47 ，and 4.16±0.74 ，respectively.Mobile phone dependency was positively correlated with alexithymia （r=0.391， P <0.001）and negatively correlated with self-concept clarity r=-0.434 ， P<0.001 ）.Self-concept clarity showed a significant mediating effect （ β=0.149 P<0.001 ）between alexithymia and mobile phone dependency， accounting for 40.2% of the total effect.Conclusion The level of mobile phone dependency among nursing freshmen was higher than the average.Alexithymia not only directly affcted mobile phone dependency but also exerted an indirect effect through self-concept clarity.
