ABSTRACT:Becauseof itspoor physical properties,lowfertilityand fragile ecological environment,saline-alkali land seriouslyrestricts crop growth.Biochar,as acarbon-based polyporous material produced by pyrolysisof organic mater such as agricultural waste and forestry residues under hypoxia or low oxygen conditions,has the characteristics of high specific surface area,abundant surface functional groups and high porosity.Asa new eficient soil amendment,biochar has been studied in improving soil fertility,reducing nutrient loss,improving soil structure and promoting plant growth. This paperreviewed thebasiccharacteristicsof biocharand itsaplication insaline-alkali soil improvement.Fromthe perspectivesof improving soil physical structure,increasing soil nutrient contentandavailability,improving soil moisture condition,activating soil microorganismsand increasing soil cation exchange capacity,the reducing effectand mechanism of biocharonsoilobstacle factors insaline-alkali land were expounded.Finall,the futureresearch directionof biochar improvement of saline-alkaliland was prospected,and the problems to be solved were put forward,inorder to provide theoretical basis and technical reference for the development and utilization policy of saline-alkali land.
