Abstract:To investigate theperformance of laser welded joints of dissimilar thicknessand dissimilar base aluminumaloys,thisstudyfocusesonlaser wirefeeding weldingof1.5mmthick 5182-Oand3mmthick 6061-T6 aluminumaloys.Thehardness,metallographicstructureandtensilepropertiesof theweldedsamplesareanalyzed,and thefracturesurface isanalyzedby SEM.Theresultsshowthat when welding disimilar metals withdifrent thicknesses,agood jointcanbeobtained bybiasing the laser spottowards thethick plate.The grainsinthe base metalsof 5182and 6061aluminumallysareallfibrous,and thegrainsintheweld zoneareequiaxedwithdifrent orientationsandfinegrain structure.Thehardnessatthefusion lineof 5182is thelowest,withaminimumvalueof 57.9HVO.1 and a test force of O.98 N. The average tensile strength of the joint is 252.8MPa .The fracture surface exhibits numerous and deep dimples with relatively uniform distribution,indicating ductile fracture.
