Abstract:To investigate theeffectsof diferent too-pinoffset directionsand magnitudeson welded joint performance,astudy isconducted on theFriction Stir Welding (FSW)process of 5mm thick 60o5A-T6aluminum alloy.Theresults showthat the tool-pinoffset direction exerts a minorinfluenceon joint property.When thetool-pin ffset iswithintherangeofO~2mm,thejointqualityisgood,exhibitingnodefectssuchastunnelsor voids,and the mechanicalpropertiesexhibitminimalfluctuation,witha tensilestrengthof210~215MPa.When the tooloffset reaches2.5mm,a lack of penetrationdefectappears in theweld,leading toaseverereductionin mechanical properties,with thetensilestrength dropping to150~16OMPa.Fortol-pinofsets below 2mm,thetensile fracture surfaceexhibitsthe typical ductilefracture morphologycharacteristicof aluminum allywelds.Atanoffsetof2.5mm, thelocationof thelackof penetration becomesthecrack initiationsiteforfracture,andthetensilefracturesurface shows amixed morphology combining quasi-cleavage fracture and ductile fracture.The fatigue performance of the joint ishigher for a tool-pin offset of O mm compared to that for an offset of 2mm :
