Effect of Rotor Roughness on the Load-bearing Performance of Porous Gas Bearings Based on CFD

Abstract:In order to examine the impact of rotor surface roughness on the static properties of porous gas bearings,a thermal hybrid lubrication model of porous gas bearings was established,and thestatic features of porous gas bearings were studied in detail byutilizing Fluent software.The rotor eccentricity was simulated by implementing the grid iteration methodand theuser-defined function(UDF)of tile motion.The effectsof eccentricity,roughness height,rotor speed and air supply pressre on the bearing load capacity were examined.The findings demonstrate thatwithin acertain limit,suitable roughnessheight may increase the bearing capacity,particularlyunder thesituationof high eccentricity,high speedand high air supply pressure.It is worth mentioning thatthe surface roughness will have a negative influence on the dynamic pressure effect of the bearing,which has atremendous impact on the dynamic pressure bearing.The outcomes of this research provide an essential reference for the machining precision of rotors of porous gas bearings.
