Implicit Resistance and Resource Conservation： An Analysis of the “Lying Flat” Behavior among University Librarians

AbstractThis paper focuses on the phenomenonof"lying flat”among universitylibrarians.Usingqualitative research methods andgrounded in the Conservationof Resources （COR）theory，itofers ananalysisof the underlyingcauses and mechanisms of this behavior.The paper finds that“lying flat”represents arationalcoping strategy adopted bylibrarians inresponse toresource scarcityorloss.It is primarily driven by institutionalresource depletion， withother forms of resource lossexerting synergistic effects.Librarians’resource acquisition relies mainlyon a complex social network composed of three chanels： individualcompetence，familyconnections，andorganizational support.To mitigate“lying flat”behaviorand enhance librarians’job satisfactionand motivation，the paper proposesseveral strategies，including establishing astress early-warning mechanism，building a hierarchical resource protectionmatrix，ensuring sustained resource investment， fostering a culture of mutual support， and expanding librarians’ social networks.
