AbstractThe Taklamakan Desert is the largest desert in China,and its marginal areas have long been threatened by desert expansion and sandstorms.To address these issues,China has launched a series of ecological restoration and protection projects since the late 197Os.In November 2024,the Taklamakan Desert“Edge-Locking”Project successfully achieved thefullclosureofa 3046-kilometerecological barier.This phased achievement is notonlyan important milestone in China’s ecological governance,but also lays a foundation for safeguarding ecological security,promoting the building of a strong country,and realizing the sustainabledevelopmentof the Chinese nation.Its strategic significance lies inrealizing ecological protectionand environmental restoration,promoting economic development and social stability,safeguarding border stability and national security,and improving transportation conditions as wellas practicing the“Belt and Road”Initiative.To consolidate this phased achievement and fundamentallcurb the spread of yellow sand,the Taklamakan Desert“Edge-Locking”Project will enter a new phase of quality improvement and eficiency enhancement.It is necessry to continuously consolidate and upgrade the achievements of sand control,vigorously developsand-related industries with localcharacteristics,and further strengthen international cooperation and exchanges in sand control.
