Performance and antioxidant analysis of curcumin-loaded cellulose acetate nanofiber composite hydrogels

AbstractTo construct a novel hydrogel dressing with both excellent mechanical properties and free radical scavenging capability,a nanofiber-reinforced composite hydrogel (QCS/OD/CA-Cur)
was prepared using quaternized chitosan(QCS)and oxidized dextran(OD)as the hydrogel matrix,incorporating curcumin-loaded cellulose acetate nanofibers (CA-Cur).The experimental results demonstrate that the introduction of nanofibers significantly enhanced the mechanical properties of the hydrogels.The compressive strength and tensile strength of the nanocomposite hydrogels were1.8 times and 2.4 times higher than those of the hydrogel without fibers,respectively.Furthermore,significant improvements were observed in sweling behavior,strain capacity,and stability.Free radical scavenging assays revealed that the QCS/OD/CA-Cur hydrogel exhibited outstanding antioxidant performance,achieving a scavenging rate of 60.35% against ABTS cation radicals.The materials used in this hydrogel are natural polymers and their derivatives,which possess good biocompatibility,providing experimental evidence and application potential for the development of biologically friendly antioxidant medical dressings.
