A Case Report of Angiostrongylus cantonensis Infection in a Dog

Abstract：Canine neurla angiostrongylosis（CNA）isa parasitic disease caused bythe infectionwith Angiostrongyliasiscantonensis，characterizedprimarilybysevereneurologicaldysfunction.Thisarticlediscusses the diagnosis，preventionand control of CNA，aiming toprovideareference forclinical practice.A5-year-old male Bichon Frise waspresented with paralysisafter reportedlyingesting a giant African land snail.Diagnostic investigations included clinical examination，complete blood count，cerebrospinal fluid（CSF）analysis，magnetic resonance imaging（MRI），and polymerase chain reaction（PCR）testing.CSF smear examination revealed elongated structuresmorphologicallyconsistentwithparasiticnematodes.MRI findingsincludedT2-weighted hyperintense signals inthethoracolumbar spinalcordand mildleptomeningeal enhancement inthebrain.Basedonthesefindings， thehistoryofpossiblesnail ingestion，andtheendemic geographicallocation，adefinitivediagnosisofA.cantonensis infection was confirmed.The dog died three days after presentation without receiving treatment.This case indicates thatcanine neuralangiostrongylosis israpidly progressiveandcarriesa high mortalityrisk，underscoring the need for prompt clinical recognition and effective diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.
