Captive Husbandry and Breeding of Correlophus ciliatus

Abstract：Thecrested gecko（Correlophus ciliatus）isan emerging specialty economicanimal with arelatively short history incaptive breeding butsignificantdevelopmental potential.This review synthesizes critical technologies foritsartificial husbandryand reproduction，aiming toprovideascientificfoundation for large-scale farming.By analyzing habitat setup（e.g.，climbing structures，temperature/humidity control），dailymanagement（diet formulation，handlingof sheddingand tailautotomy handling），and breeding strategies（estrus detection，incubation optimization），this study systematically examines the characteristics and challenges of C .ciliatus aquaculture.Key findings demonstrate that habitat design must simulate arboreal niches，where container height，cork bark （（e.g.， Portuguese cork wood），and humidity （ 70%-80% ）are essential to prevent floppy tail syndrome as well as shedding complications.Reproductive success depends on breeder body weight （females ≥40g ，males ⩾ 75g ）and incubation temperature （22.7-24.4C），which significantly influence offspring sex ratio and viability.Disease management should prioritizecalcium deficiency，gastrointestinal parasites，and environmental stressors（e.g.，head-shrinking syndrome）.In conclusions，Sustainable C .ciliatus farming necessitates balancing natural behavioral ecology with human intervention incaptive environments.Despite rapidlygrowing market demand，scaling production faces challenges such asunstablehatching rates and insuffcient genetic understanding of morphs traits.This review provides practical guidelines to enhance farming eficiencyand animal welfare，offring actionable insights foradvancing the reptile pet industry.
