Alkali-catalyzed Hydrothermal Degradationof Ligninand Its Application to Phenolic Resin Adhesives

Abstract:Acetatelignin(AAL)wasdegradedbyhdrotheraltreatmentwiththeaimofincreasingitsreactivefunctionalgroupcontent whileregulatingitselativemolecularweight,andreplacingpartofpenolwiththelow-molecular-weightacetatelignin(DAAL)obtaed throughhydrothealdegadatiotopreprelign-basedphnolic(D)resinhesive.Tefectsofhdroteralreatmentcoditios, suchareactiontemperature,eactiontime,andalkalidosage,onthemolecularweight,phenolichydroxylandmethoxylontentofacetate ligninwereivesigatedTefetsofignrothealdgaationoeicaladcalpropetisoflg-sedolic inadhesives,suchaswoodchipondingstrengt,theraltabity,andfreformaldehydecontentwereanalyzd.Teresultssoedtat when the hydrothermal degradation conditions were 20% alkali content (relative to the lignin mass fraction),reaction temperature of 200 ℃ andreactiontimeof15Omin,thephenolichydroxylcontentinDAALwashigherandthemethoxycontentwaslower,andthenumber-averagemolecularweightdecreasedfrom989to329;theperformanceofDLPFpreparedwithdegradedligninwasthebest,withawoodchip bonding strength of 1.35 MPa,and the free formaldehyde and free phenol contents were 0. 11% and 0 54% ,respectively.
