Effect of Heating Pretreatment on Pyrolysis and Sensory Quality of Heated Cigarette Flakes

Abstract: Inordertoenhancethetobaccoaromaofheated cigaretes,theeffectofheating pretreatmentoftobaco powderonthe qualtyofheatedcigaretesasivestigated.Withthefmulatedtobaccopowderasexprimentalmaterial,teeatingpretratment wascarriedout bycontrolingtheheating temperatureand time.Theconventional chemicalcompositionof pretreated tobacco powder wasanalyzed,thentheheatedpretreated powderwasmadeintoheatedcigaretefakes,andthecompositionof prolysis aerosol was analyzed.Finallytheflakes were made into heated cigaretes forsensoryevaluation.Resultsshowedthattheheating pretreatment could significantly increase ( p ⩽ 0 . 0 5 ) the total sugar and reducing sugar content, while decrease the starch content of tobacco powder under certain conditions of heating temperature and heating time,also significantly increase ( p ⩽ 0 . 0 5 ) the content of aromacomponents includingfurans,aldehydesandketones,acids,andphenolicsinthethermallylysedaerosolofheatedcigaete flakes.The heating pretreatment could significantly enhance ( p⩽0 . 0 5 ) the sensory quality of heated cigarettessuch as aroma and smoke. In this experiment, the preferred pretreatment conditions were heating temperature of and heating time of 20 minutes.
