A Study on the Postal Route from Yugan to Jiangzhou on the Minyue Tributary Route to the Capital During the Tang Dynasty

Abstract:ThepostalroutesectionfromRaozhoutoJiangzhouontheTang DynastyMinyueTributaryRoutetothecapitalrannorth fromYugan，traversedtheQiaoyangPlain,andreached XunyangCountyviaDuchangCountyontheeasternshoreofPengliLake. TheroutepasedthroughlocationssuchasWulin Mountain，WuyangPavilion（Wuyang Station），Baisha（thesiteofancient QiaoyangCity）,ndtheoldseatofDuchangCountyFromthere，itcrossedPengliLakeviatheTantouFerrywestofthecounty seat,landedatMajiaFeryontheoppositeshore，proceededalongtheortheastemfothillsofountLu,crossedtheWuzhang Ridge,andfinallyreachedtheseatofXunyangCountyHere,itonectedththemainnorthouthrunkrouteleadingtChang'an. InthelateTangperiod,ossiblyifluencedbyterelocationofuchangCounty'ssatandashiftintenatioaltrasportatiofocus， theectionnorthofDuchangwasalteredtopassthroughWuliuStationandPengliStationenroutetoXunyang.Asacrucialsegment ofthe MinyueTributaryRoutewithintheJiangxiregion,thepostalroutefromYugantoJiangzhouplayedavitalroleduringthe Tang Dynastyinconnecting Changlan with Minyue,and in linking theRaozhouand Shezhouregions viaPoyang.
