Abstract:[Purposes]Basedon the analysis of the ecological and geological environment status of a typical iron ore dump in the western cold and arid region,a scientific and reasonable ecological restoration plan is formulated to restore the service functions of the damaged ecosystem in the area and promote biodiversity restoration.[Methods] Taking an open-pit iron mine dump in the piedmont of the southwest edge of the central Altay Mountains in Xinjiang as an example,this paper puts forwardan ecological restoration scheme combining slope cutting engineering,drainage ditch engineering and net hanging and seeding engineering.[Findings] This ecological restoration plan provides the process flow and design parameters for each construction technology,and selects ecological restoration plants for typical cold and arid dump sites in the western region from four directions: plant species diversity,stability of pioneer species,stress resistance of plant growth,and combination of dominant plants and native plants.[Conclusions]This ecological restoration plan provides reference and inspiration for the ecological restoration and green development of typical open-pit mine waste dumps in the cold and arid regions of western
