[Abstract]Root-canalhandinstruments，ftenreferrdtoashandfiles，aretoosutilizediendodontictherapytocean and enlarge therootcanal through apush-pullmotion from the crown to theroot. Inmodern endodontic techniques，nickel-titaniuminstrumentspredominantlyfacilitaterootcanalpreparation.However，handinstrumentsontinuetoplayanir replaceable roleinvarious procedures，includingcanal exploration，canal patency，apicalclearance，androotcanallength measurement.Thisarticlereviews theevolutionofhandfiles，tracing thedevelopmentofmaterialsfromtheinitialuseof carbonstel tostainlessstelandnowtonickel-titanium.The manufacturing standards have progressed fromirregularities to ISO standards，alongsidetheemergenceof various modified instruments.Asaresult，hand files increasinglymeetdiverse clinicalneeds，establishing themselvesas indispensable tools inrootcanal therapy.Selecting appropriate hand instrumentsandemployingproper techniques—suchas thorough irrigation；andcleaning，alongwithultrasonicirigation; helps prevent complications such as postoperative sweling，rootcanal perforation，instrument separation，and ledge formation.This has become an essential component of root canal therapy.
