Hydrological Characteristics of Litter in Pinus tabuliformis Forests at Different Slope Positions in the Northern Mountainous Area of Hebei Province

AbstractTo explore thecharacteristics of water-holding capacityof liter in Pinus tabuliformis forests atdiferent slope positions in the mountainous areas of northern Hebei Province,Pinus tabuliformis forests at diferent slope positions (upper,middle,lower) in this region were taken as the research objects.The thickness of the undecomposed liter layer and semi-decomposed liter layer,as well as liter accumulation were investigated,and the water conservation capacityoftheliter was analyzed.Theresults showed thatthe total thicknessofliterinPinus tabuliformis forests ranged from 3.39 to 6.57cm ,and the litter accumulation ranged from 26.62 to 35.96t⋅hm-2 .There were significant diferences between both liter thickness and accumulation and slope position.The maximum waterholding capacityof total liter inPinus tabuliformis forests at diferent slope positions ranged from 40.81 to 58.04 t⋅hm-2 .Both the maximum interception capacity and effective interception capacity of the total iter layer showed a changing trend of increasing with the decrease of slope position,with the maximum interception capacity ranging from 31.08 to 45.84t⋅hm-2 and the effective interception capacity ranging from 24.95 to 37.15t⋅hm-2 . The order of litter water conservation capacity at different slope positions from high to low was lower slope position > middle slope position > upper slope position.
