A Study on the Medicinal Use of Feces and Urine Recorded in Dunhuang Medical Documents

Abstract：The medicinaluseoffecesandurine inancientmedicine hasoftenbeenmet withrepulsion，but this prejudice has graduallychangedas modern medicalresearch sheds lightonsuch historical practices.Dunhuang medical documents contain a largenumber ofrecordsabouttheclinicaluse，purported properties，and methodsofpreparation for medicine made with feces andurine.Byexamining these dcuments andcomparing themwithother inheritedmedical texts，ithas been found thatthe medicines described in Dunhuang medical documents show strongregionalandcultural characteritics，thusprovidingan important supplement to the current research on ancient medicines made with excrement.
