Design of transparent vehicle multi-frequency antenna

Abstract: To improve the aesthetic integration of the vehicular communication system, a transparent multiband antenna with metal mesh was designed for seamless integration into transparent surfaces such as automotive glass. The antenna was fed by an asymmetric coplanar waveguide; the multiband characteristics were realized by bending and slotting the monopole structure, with overall dimensions of 100 mm × 40 mm × 1.1 mm. High optical transmittance was achieved through the use of a transparent metal mesh material and a transparent substrate. The measured results demonstrate good impedance matching across the operational bandwidth of the vehicular communication, with return loss below -10 dB and maximum gain of 4.9 dB, while the measured data closely match the simulation results. The antenna is characterized by simple structure and high transmittance, and has a wide range of application scenarios in the field of automotive systems.
