Digital design and analysis of molding tooling for composite components

Abstract:Molds playacrucialrole inthe manufacturing processofcompositeproducts.Theutilizationofdigitaldesignand manufacturingapproaches cannotablyenhancetheeficiencyandqualityofcompositemolding.Basedon finiteelement simulation,thisresearch conducted structural optimizationdesign forthecuring molding moldofC-beamcomposite members inautoclaveandinnovativelyputforwardadigitalmoldsurfaceoptimizationdesign methodbasedonSolidWorksforthe mold.Through thedigital design andoptimizationofthe mold structure,the forming defects caused bythe uneven heatingof the curing temperature during the hot pressing processof thecomposite materials were addressd.The COMSOL numerical simulationmethodwas also employedinthis study,andtheaccuracyof the simulationresults wasverifiedthrough experiments.Meanwhile,byadjustingthenumberofbaffles tooptimizethefluidflow,theoptimizationeffectsofdiferentoptimizationschemes wereanalyzed,andanoptimalscheme was eventualldetermined.Aftertheimplementationofthissheme,the temperature variance was reduced by 23% compared with that before optimization,which significantly improved the temperature uniformity during the heating process of the composite.
