Abstract：Long -branch cutings combined with winter pruning represent a new propagation technique promoted in recent years.To improve thesurvival rate of cutings，this study investigated the relationship between the number of retained leaves and the survival rate.The results showed that the relative water content of cutings was closely related to both the time after pruning and the number of leaves retained. To achieve a survival rate above 80% ，regardless of the leaf retention treatment，the relative water content of cutings must not fall below 72.1% ，as this threshold determines their economic viability. When used within one day after pruning，retaining 4～6 leaves per cutting in winter resulted in survival rates ranging from 72.36% |to 89.45% ：
