Relationship between family functioningand psychological flexibility incollge students: the mediating role of rumination

【Abstract】 Objective To examine the mediating role of rumination in the relationship between family functioning and psychologicalflexibility incollege students.Methods From September to October 2O24,a total of 553 students from a normal university in Jiangxi Province were randomly sampled and asessed using the following scales: the second edition of the Family Adaptability and Cohesion Scale (FACES-I),the Chinese version of the Ruminative Response Scale (RRS-CV),the second edition of the Acceptance and Action Questionnaire (AAQI ),and theCognitive Fusion Questionnaire (CFQ-F).ResultsFamily functioning was negatively correlated with rumination ( P <0.01),whereas psychological flexibility (total/subdimensions) was positively correlated ( P <0.01). The mediation model fit was excellent. ConclusionFamily functioning directly influences collge students' psychologicalflexibilitylevels through rumination,indicating thatrumination serves as acomplete mediatorbetween these variables.
