Abstract: The microtremor horizontal-to-vertical (H/V) spectral ratio method is commonly used to estimate site effects.However,the amplitude of the H/V spectral ratio peak varies significantly depending on factors such as the position and length of the data segment and the smoothing method used.To clarify the characteristics of H/V spectral ratio peak variation with respect to the position of microtremor data segments, microtremor observations were conducted at seven sites in Japan. H/V spectral ratios were calculated for different data segment positions,and the peaks of the H/V spectral ratio curves were statistically analyzed. The results indicate that the H/V spectral ratio peak varies with data segment position and that the degree of variation is influenced by segment length and site-specific factors. Furthermore,statistical analysis revealed that,regardless of segment length or site, H/V spectral ratio peaks follow a type I extreme value distribution. These findings promote the application of the H/V spectral ratio peak in evaluating site amplification effects.
