Abstract: The deformation mechanisms of salt-frost heave in coarse-grained sulfate saline soil under multifactor interactions were investigated through a series of salt-frost heave tests conducted under thermo-hydro-salt-mechanical coupled conditions. Variations in salt-frost heave deformation in response to changing temperature,water content,and salt content were analyzed. Results indicate that the salt-frost heave magnitude increases progressively with decreasing temperature through three distinct phases:(1) initial heave phase dominated by salt heave deformation at heave initiation temperatures of 5-10°C (salt content <1.5% )and 15-20°C (salt content >1.5% );(2)accelerated heave phase featuring concurrent salt and frost heave deformations,exhibiting sensitive temperature ranges from 0∘C to -25∘C (salt content <0.5% )and from 15°C (204号 to -25∘C (salt content >0.5% );(3) stable heave phase with basically unchanged frost heave deformation. Dominant mechanisms alternate between frost heave and salt heave depending on varying water or salt content. Frost heave is predominant at water content ≥6.0% and salt content <1.5% , whereas salt heave is predominant at the same water content but with salt content >1.5% . Salt heave magnitude initially increases then decreases with increasing water content, reaching a peak at an optimal water content. The rate of change in salt-frost heave with respect to water content varies across water content ranges and can be divided into different stages according to temperature. Within the same temperature range,the rate of change in the salt-frost heave with water content remains consistent.
