Abstract:To effectively advance ecological protection and the high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin, thisstudy constructs an evaluation index system for the tourism niche of urban agglomerations, assesses tourism niche and niche overlap, and explores the situation of tourism competition and cooperation development within urban agglomerations. The results indicate that: from a tourism niche perspective, the seven urban agglomerations can be divided into three levels:the Shandong Peninsula urban agglomeration is at the first level; the Central Plains urban aglomeration and the Guanzhong Plain urban agglomeration are at the second level;and the Jinzhong,Hubao-Eyu,Ningxia Yelow River and Lanxi urban agglomerations are at the third level. In terms of niche overlap, the Shandong PeninsulaCentral Plains and Jinzhong-Central Plains agglomerations have overlaps exceeding O.9,indicating intense competition; the Ningxia Yelow River-Guanzhong Plain agglomeration has the lowest overlap. In light of overlap relationships, there are two types of overlap relationships: partial overlap and large overlap.Based on thisanalysis, targeted coopetition development strategies are proposed:urbanagglomerations with partially overlapping tourism niches should adopt a generalized niche strategy; urban agglomerations with high overlap should implement a specialized niche strategy, separating their tourism oferings through spatial, temporal, resource, and business model differentiation. This approach can transform competitive relationships and foster organic cooperation among urban agglomerations
