Abstract: Chen Cang's latest novel Floating Life exhibits unique literary aesthetic value and profound social significance. The novel uses "house"as its focal point to examine the fate of young people in the context of Chinese modernization, exploring potential pathways for them to achieve a beter life.Floating Lifediverges from Chen Cang's previous portrayals of the "urban-rural" relationship by accurately depicting typical environmentsand characters. It inherits the realist traditionof Liu Qing and Lu Yao, drawing on the narrative styles of Shamanism Rationalized, and employing a chorus -like structure to capture a nuanced sense of "reality" that bridges fictionand reality.Additionally,Floating Lifestimulates the utopian imagination of young people during the transition between "house" and "home",proposing a new approach for achieving a beter life beyond the concepts of "lying flat"and "involution".However, Floating Life has yet to broaden its creative scope froma China-centric perspective to a global one, which, to some extent, constrains the efficacy and universality of a better life.
