Trekking Through the Boundless Hometown

The Multidimensional Meanings of "Hometown" and "Nostalgia" in Chen Cang's Prose XIE Jin-Yu

Abstract： "Hometown" and "nostalgia" are the objects that Chen Cang，a Shaanxi writer，repeatedly tells in his prose style.Chen Cang constructed a nostalgia system of three dimensions of nature，life and soul in his prose： presenting the natural color of geographical hometown with the ecological writing in the perspective of naturalism，expressing the deep personal atachment to the native nature; Tracing the river of consanguinity with the family narrative and returning to the hometown of life; Through urban and rural experience，it reflects modern people's spiritual wandering and the pursuit of the soul. His prose breaks through the single Lyric mode of traditional nostalgia，and sublimates his personal experience into an aesthetic observation of the general spiritual predicament in the processof urbanization.In stylistic practice，it notonlycontinues the tradition of "the heart of prose"，but also expands the spiritual capacity of prose with the complex structure of "modern nostalgia".This creative path of combining individual memory with the symptoms of the times provides an important inspiration for contemporary prose how to achieve style consciousness and spiritual exploration.
