Abstract:To comprehensively assess the extent to which soil microplastic(MPs)affect soil quality on agricultural land in China. The paper screened 762 sets of data from 58 articles on the distribution characteristics of MPs in agricultural soils in China affecting soil properties(physical, chemical and enzyme activities) and performed Meta - integration analyses. The results showed that there were differences in the abundance values and particle size levels of MPs in agricultural soils in different regions of China; the size of MPs abundance values showed greenhouses>orchards>farmland>vegetable land, but the differences in the abundance values of MPs between surface and deep soils were not obvious. Soil pH decreased significantly, while dissolved organic matter(DOC)and inorganic phosphorus (IP)content increased significantly( P<0.05) )in higher MPs( >5% )contamination; IP content, catalase(CAT)and urease(Ure)activities increased significantly( P<0.05, )in MPs-contaminated soils with smaller particle sizes( ⩽0.5mm ). MPs-contamination experiments were conducted between IP content, CAT and Ure enzyme activities were significantly higher( P<0.05 )from 0 to 30 days, while nitrate nitrogen( (NO3--N) )content was significantly lower( P<0.001 )and CAT enzyme activity was significantly higher( P<0.001, )for experiments longer than 60 days. Pearson′ s analysis revealed that the content and particle size of MPs significantly affected soil chemical properties such as DOC, IP and NO 3- -N content( P<0.05 ), and there was a significant correlation between the particle size and soil CAT and urease activities ( r>0.30 , P<0.05 ). It can be seen that the pollution status of MPs in agricultural soils in China is serious, and MPs can affect soil quality and nutrient effectiveness through direct or indirect pathways, and the research and management of MPs in agricultural soils need to be promoted urgently.
