Abstract:When the surface of a polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA)lampshade comes into contact with acleaning solutioncontainingalcohol-basedsolvents,itmaytrigerthereleaseofresidualstresses withinthematerial,leading to crackingandfailureof the lampshade.Toaddress this,2 typicalPMMA lampshade materials,8Nand HW55,are selected to investigate the fectsof surface temperature,annealing process,and solvent typeon their cracking behavior.Testresultsshow that HW55exhibitedsuperiorresistance tosolvent-induced cracking,withnocracks observed in cleaning solutions with ethanol concentrations ranging from 25% to 40% .Cracking only occurrs when the lampshade surface temperature reached 75°C and isopropanol-based cleaning solutions are used.In contrast, the 8N material does not crack at an ethanol concentration of 25% ,but cracks appear as the ethanol concentration increased or when isopropanol-based cleaning solutions are used.
