Abstract:Theinfluence of surface crackson therivet butonofSelf-PiercingRiveted (SPR) joints between DC01 steeland integrateddie-castaluminumalloyisinvestigatedusingmetallographicmicroscopy,industrial Computed Tomography(CT),and staticand fatigue mechanical testing.Statisticalanalysis indicates thatthelength and numberof rivet butonsurface cracks havenosignificant efectonthe tensileperformanceof the joints.Thespecimensare groupedaccording tocrack severity,andnonoticeablediferencesareobservedineither static tensilestrengthor fatigue lifeamong the groups.Although rivet button surface crackspropagate during both staticand fatigue loading, theyarenotidentifiedastheprimarycauseof jointfailure.Incontrast,theloading frequencyisfoundtohavea significant impact on the fatigue life of the SPR joints.
