Abstract:This study focuses on Japan,whose hill terrain closely resembles China's southern regions.It systematical analyzes the current status,chalenges,trends,and government support policies forforestry mechanization in Japan,extracting insights for China's mountainous areas.The research reveals that Japan has established a "highperformance forestrymachinery system"covering loging,timber harvesting,and processing through a three-phase approach:"road network prioritization,mechanical substitution,and inteligent upgrading,"achieving remarkable mechanization results. To address challenges like workforce aging,fragmented forest land,and complex terrin,

Japan has developed localized compact machinery with low-carbon technologies,intelligent systems,and multifunctional effciency.This progressissupported by government planning guidance,forest land consolidation,road network construction,financial subsidies,and talent development programs.China is advised to prioritize mechanization inhilly regions through five keymeasures:strengthening forest tenurereforms to integrate landresources,improving road networks to enhance machinery-integrated operations,increasing R&D promotionand purchase subsidies,and forming profesional teams to boost service capabilities.These efforts aim to achieve breakthroughs and high-quality development in mountainous forestry mechanization.
