Study on the Removal Efficiency of Copper Ion in Water by Micron-sized Zero-valent Iron
Abstract:To address thechalenge ofcopper-containing wastewater treatment,this study delvesinto theeffcacyof micron-sized zero-valent iron (mZVI) inremoving heavy metal copper ions from water.Takingcopper ions—the primary heavy metal pollutantinwater—astheresearchobject,thestudysystematicallinvestigatesthecopperionremovalefficiencyand mechanism of mZVI by adjusting the solution pH value,initial copper ion concentration, and mZVI dosage,while integrating characterizationtechniques such asscaning electronmicroscopy (SEM),X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS),and Fourier-transforminfraredspectroscopy(FTR),aswellasineticaalysis.ExperimentalresultsshowthatthemZVIachievsth optimal copper ion removal effect when the pH is 6,the initial copper ion concentration is 20mg/L ,and the mZVI dosage is 0.1g/L with a removal rate of up to 99.8% .The removal process conforms to the first-order kinetic model. Characterization results confirm thatthe mainmechanismsofcopperionremovalbymZVIarechemicalreductionandco-precipitation.Theresearch fidings clarify theoptimal processparametersfortreatingopper-ontainingwastewaterwithmZVI,evealitsctionmechanism,ndprovide theoretical support and technical reference for the practical application of mZVI in heavy metal polution control.
