Performance analysis of large ground-based radomes under high-power electromagnetic irradiation

Abstract:Radomeserves as protectiveenclosures forradar antennas,efectivelyshielding theequipmentfrom environmentalinterferenceanddamage.Withtheevolutionofmodernbatlefieldenvironmentsandoperationalrequirements,thefunctional demands on radome has become increasinglydiverse.Beyond wave-transmision performance,capabilities such as stealth and high-power tolerance have gained critical importance.When subjected to high-power electromagnetic microwaveirradiation,the molecularpolarizationwithincompositematerials induces high-frequencyoscilations,leading tolocalizedheating.Thiscausesstructural deformationandcompromises stability.If temperatures exceed the material’sthermal limit,risks of ablationorcombustionarise.Currentsolutions toenhanceradomepower tolerance primarilyfocusonmaterial research,selectinglow-dielectric-lossandhigh-temperature-resistantmaterials.Whilepractical,thisapproachlacksthe retical guidance,andexperimentalresultsremainproject-specific,requiringrevalidationforaltereddesignconditions.This studyemploys theoreticalanalysis,designevaluation,andsimulationmodeling tocomparativelyassessthepowerandling capabilities of large spatial trussradomes with varying configurations under high-power electromagnetic irradiation.It accounts for environmental factors (e.g.,thermalconvection)andtheimpactof temperatureriseonmaterial dielectricproperties.Byimplementing abidirectionallcoupled simulation mechanism,theanalysisachieves higheraccuracy.This framework enablesprecisedesignevaluationforpractical projects,providingreliableassessmentcriteriaandfeasibilityrecommendations.The work ofers significant theoretical and practical value in radome engineering.
