Abstract: The Baoshan Dazhu holy cave in Henan is a rock-cut cave temple presided over by the monk Lingyu.Inside the groto, there are inscriptions related to the decline of the Dharma, such as passages from the "Two Thousand and Five Hundred Years" section of the Mah ä vaipulya Mah ä samgh ä ta S u tra, thescripture on the extinctionof the Dharma, the namesof theFifty-Three Buddhas, the Twenty-Five Buddhas, and the Twenty-Four Patriarchs who transmited the Dharma. The Buddha names inscribed both inside and outside the groto, along with those on Lingyu's pagoda, form the complete seven-tiered list of Buddha names in the Three-Stage School of Buddhism. This indicates that Dazhu holy cave reflects both Lingyu's thoughts on the decline of the Dharma and the Three-Stage School of Buddhism. There must have been some inevitable connection between Master Lingyu and Master Xinxing, the founder of the ThreeStage School of Buddhism. Considering factors such as their ages, geographical locations, and reputations, it is likely that Xinxing was influenced by Lingyu.
