Two Notes on the Verification of Tao Yuanming's Poems and Life

Abstract;Theoriginaltitleofthepoem"ToZhouXuzhi，ZuQiandXieJingyi（theThreeGentlemen）”wasfoundinthetenvolumeeditioncollected bythe JiGu Ge（aprivate library）.In the Shaoxing edition，itwas titled "T0 Zhou the Clerk，Zu and Xie" .Mr.Yuan Xingpei has done textual research and concluded that the title of the poem should be"To Zhou Xuzhi，ZuQiand Xie Jingyi（the Three Gentlemen）".However，basedon historical recordsand logicalanalysis，itismore appropriatefor the titleof the poem tobe"To ZhoutheClerk，Zuand Xie". Secondly，it is not proper to inferTao Yuanming'sagebyrelying on thecharacter"old".Theclaim that Tao Yuanming livedto be seventy-six years old，which wasadvocated by Zhang Yanand was cited in Mr.Yuan Xingpei's ′′A Comprehensive StudyofTao Yuanming's Chronological Life"，isnot convincing.
