《归园田居》“一去三十年”别解

An Alternative Interpretation of " Thirty Years Away" inReturningto Dwell in Gardens and Fields

Abstract：Thephrase"ThirtyyearsIwaslostinthedusty world"inRetumingtoDwelinGardensandFields（No.1）has long beenasubjectofdebateregardingitsinterpretation.Accordingtothecontextoftepoem，"thirtyyars"shouldrefertoteduration ofTaoYuanmingsoffcialservice.However，basedonrelatedcontentinMiscellaneousPoemsandDrinkingWine，hisactual tenure inoffce was only tenyears，suggesting that the character "three"（三）in"thirty years"maybeaneror. It is hypothesized that "three"（三）wasascribal error for"正"（zheng，possibly meaning"exactly"or serving asa modifier），and the original line should have read "一去正十年"（"exactly ten years away"）.
