Abstract： This study investigated the effects of pruning mother branches of 3-year-old Shine-Muscat grapevines to retain 2， 5，or 8 buds on sprouting， growth， and fruiting traits under rain-shelter cultivation in Guangdong for secondary fruit production. The results showed that 5-bud pruning resulted in the highest fruiting shoot rate，fruiting coefficient， and yield per plant， followed by 8-bud pruning，while 2-bud pruning performed the Worst. However， no significant differences were observed in sprouting rate， berry weight， cluster weight， berry longitudinal and transverse diameters， berry shape index，soluble solids content， or titratable acidity. Therefore，retaining 5-buds is recommended as the optimal pruning method for secondary fruit production in Shine-Muscat grapes.
