ANPC unexpected level elimination method based on specific unit switching tube action delay

Abstract:The dead time of active neutral point clamped (ANPC) converters can lead to unexpected level output and overvoltage isues in the switching tubes,resulting in a shortened lifespan of the switching tubes and affecting equipment safety. A method based on specific unit switching transistor action delay was proposed to address the problem of unexpected levels in 5L-ANPC and 3L-ANPC converters during dead time.Based on the polarity of the current and the delay of specific complementary switching transistor actions involved in switching,all unexpected levels caused by dead times can be completely eliminated.In response to the overvoltage problem of switching tubes in 5L-ANPC and 3L-ANPC converters during dead time,considering the junction capacitance of the switching tubes,the voltage borne by the switching tubes during the dead time was calculated to determine the switching and overvoltage amount that may occur. The overvoltage problem of the switching tubes was suppressed by using a parallel absorption capacitor method. Finally, efectiveness of the method was verified on 5L-ANPC and 3L-ANPC experimental platforms.The proposed method does not require the addition of additional switching tubes, and the implementation process is simple and suitable for solving similar problems in other topologies.
