Series capacitor Buck-Cuk high step-down DC-DC converter with magnetic integration

Abstract:To address the issue of insufficient step-down ratio in traditional intrinsically safe converters, a Buck and non-inverting Cuk converter were combined to form an interleaved paralll Buck-Cuk converter. By introducing a series capacitor,the voltage stress on the switching devices was reduced. To minimize the converter’s volume and weight,the two output inductors were magnetically coupled and integrated, resulting in a magnetically integrated series-capacitor Buck-Cuk high step-down DC-DC intrinsically safe converter. The equivalent inductance of the coupled inductor under different operating modes was analyzed,and the impact of coupling on phase current ripple before and after integration was derived. The constraint relationship between the coupling coefficient and current ripple suppression under diffrent duty cycles was obtained,verifying that magnetic integration enhances the converter’s intrinsic safety performance.Furthermore,the energy contributions from the power source and various components to the discharge spark during a short circuit were analyzed,demonstrating that the proposed converter significantly improves intrinsic safety compared to traditional converters. Finally,an experimental prototype was built to validate the theoretical analysis.
