Abstract:To elucidate the efects of hiking trails in nature reserves onabsorptive root traits of plants ,two transect lines perpendicular to the hiking trail were set up at two elevations ( 600m and 2000m )inthe Fanjingshan National Nature Reserve,Guizhou.Meanwhile,by measuring the absorptive root traits and soil properties of woody plants at diffrent distances from the hiking trails, the ffcts of distance and elevation on the traits of absorptive roots were analyzed. Results are as following:(1) Distance has no significant effects on the absorptive root traits, but its interaction with elevation significantly affects the Pcontent and N:P. At the elevation of 2000m ,absorptive root P content increases, but N:P decreases with the increase of the distance from the hiking trails. In contrast, both are not aected by distance at the elevation of 600 m.(2)Elevation significantly affects the N content,N:P,C:N,and specific root length of absorptive root traits.(3)Soil depth, soil temperature, and soil pH can explain the 13% variation in absorptive root traits. Therefore, the hiking trail has a significant impact on absorptive root traits of woody plants in high elevation areas, and the construction of trails should be avoided in high elevationareas of the nature reserves as much as possible.
