The Arts and Crafts Movement in the second half of the 19thcentury was not only an innovation movement in the field ofarchitecture and design, but also a profound social and culturaltransformation. During this period, the technological changeof the publishing industry and the development of architectureshowed an unprecedented interaction. Based on the theoreticalframework of media ecology, actor network theory and textualmateriality, this paper systematically examines the symbioticrelationship between publishing industry and architecture from1859 to 1910.
By analyzing the representative publications and architecturalcases of this period, this paper reveals that the publishingindustry is not only the media of architectural thought, but alsoan important participant and shaper of architectural practice.
