Study on the Effect of Different Treatments on Breaking the Dormancy of Yam Bulbils

Abstract:In cultivation and production,yam stem segments are usually used as propagation materials,but the production cost is high and the reproduction coeficient is low.Bulbils,with high yield potential,can serveas cost-effective propagation materials,but the long dormant period of them limits the timelysowing in production.In this study,bulbilsof‘Dahechangyu’‘Jipicao’‘Zoupingximao’yam which were harvested for more than 6O days were used as experimental materials.The bulbils were treated with 100mg/L GA3 10mg/L PP333 and 5% H2O2 to explore the influence of different treatment methods on breaking the dormancy of them.The results indicated that 100mg/L GA3 had a remarkable effect of breaking the dormancy of bulbils of ‘Dahechangyu’ and‘Zoupingximao' yam. PP333 ( 10mg/L )was helpful to break the dormancy of bulbils of‘Dahechangyu'.The effect of the 5% H2O2 treatment was not significant.
