Abstract:Phosphorus(P)and molybdenum(Mo)are essentialelements influencing nitrogen(N) fixation and nutrient acquisition in legumes. This study investigated the efects of different P and Mo levels on the growth and nutrient uptake of Medicago sativa through a pot experiment. The results showed that low P significantly restricted plant height and biomass, whereas Mo addition had no effect.P adition increased shoot biomass by an average of 168% compared to the no-P treatment. The interaction between P and Mo influenced root development, under P supply, elevated Mo supply reduced total root length and root surface area.P addition enhanced root organic acid exudation, increased plant Pconcentration and accumulation, promoted nodulation and P absorption rate, and reduced the N:P .Meanwhile, shoot N concentration decreased due to a dilution effct with Paddition, but totalNaccumulation increased.Moaddition hadno significant impactonnutrient uptake or nodulation. This study demonstrates that under the given grassland soil conditions,P is the primary limiting factor for Medicago satiua growth, while soil Mo levels aresufficient to meet plant needs. These findings provide insights into the nutrient acquisition strategies of Medicago satiua and ofer a theoretical basis for legume nutrient management.
