Diagnosis and treatmentof fascioliasis hepatica in goats

AbstractFascioliasis hepaticaisa parasitic disease caused by Fasciola hepaticathat lives inthe bileducts of animals.Aclinical examinationona caseof goat farming inacertain farmer was comducted in Tongling,Anhui Province,and confirms it was diagnosedas fascioliasis.It targeted treatment plans were providedandcorresponding preventive measures were proposed.In August 2O24,the goats raised by a certain farmer successively showed symptoms such as elevated body temperature (39.5 to 41ΣC ) and significantly pale mucous membranes. The pathological features were manifestedasmultiple grayish-yellow necrotic fociinthe liver tissue,which weredark incoloranduneven in texture.Theboundaries ofthe necrotic areas were relativelyclear,andthere were larvae and adults of Fasciola hepatica in the gallbladder and bile ducts.The eggs were brownish-yellw.The highest number of fecal eggs was 7500per/g and the infection intensity was relatively high.In terms of treatment,trichlorobendazole ( 10mg/kg ）wasused for deworming inmicro and light goats,supplemented with concentrated feedand immunomodulators.Forseverelyaffected goats, nitrochlorophenol (5-8mg/kg ）was selected for deworming. At the same time, targeted treatment methods such as intravenous infusion (fordehydratedand electrolyte disordered goats）and anemia treatment (for anemic goats)were adopted.Preventive measures included regulardewormingonceayearatthe endof autumn,the beginingof winterand the beginning of spring,piling andfermenting the manurefrom the sheep farm,harmless treatmentof diseased goats by deep burial orincineration,choosing high altitude,dryand well ventilated pasturesand implementingarotational grazing system,strengthening the source controland hygiene maintenance of forage and drinking wateruse a 2O mg/L copper sulfate solution or 20% ammonia water for snail extermination. This article provides a reference for the scientific prevention and treatment of fascioliasis.
